On The Edge
When I set off for art school, it was with the idea of being a painter in mind; but as my time there progressed, I began to feel that somehow I needed to reach out beyond the canvas, and I wasn’t quite sure how.
I started asking myself what would happen if I ‘misplaced’ the image, and pushed it right over the edge of the canvas and onto the frame. I began making drawings like this, hanging the canvases on the wall like shelves, and it was at this point that I realised conceptually I was thinking more like a sculptor than a painter.
This was a true breakthrough, also echoing my growing understanding of my own uprooted experience of having travelled, and of findung myself somewhere entirely unexpected.
